40 GREEN STREET LUNCH
We are located in leafy Northampton. With its sidewalk dining, our cafe recalls the bistrots and cafe's of major cities. Indoors you'll find a comfortable dining room that is tranquil in the morning, convivial at the lunch hour, and urbane in the evening. Our front patio is a welcoming, sheltered spot for meeting friends and enjoying the sunshine. Once inside, you're greeted like a regular - which, chances are, you will be.
THE MENU
This is an omnivore's menu, emphasizing lighter yet fully flavored food with tempting choices for the sophisticated vegetarian as well as the confirmed carnivore. Using his background in fine dining, the owner has drawn from his repertoire to bring you a chef's vision of the perfect casual restaurant. In the morning - French pastry, a refined omelette, a buckwheat pancake with Maine wild blueberries. In the afternoon - a wide selection of Numi teas, our own blend of organic coffee, and fine desserts, with a selection of top-drawer chocolates and other temptations. In late afternoon and into the evening - tapas-style plates served with a carefully chosen wine or an exceptional beer. All day long-soups and breads crafted in-house and one-of-a-kind sandwiches and salads, in addition to a tightly focused wine and beer list. We offer bistrot-quality food in a bistrot setting.
THE PLACE
The restaurant is housed in a former chocolate shop and features warm red walls, birch tables, wall sconces, and coffered paneling that shows off the best of New England's famed craftsmanship. We have respected the charm of the original space and thoughtfully updated the atmosphere with modern touches of stainless steel, bistrot blackboards, and a front counter cantilevered by a marine block-and-tackle system.
